Bacchae at ACC
Greek tragedy comes to ACC

The Austin Live Theater blog declares Austin Community College's premiere of "Bacchae" a profound experience that "grabs you by the throat and opens your eyes to a world of danger and excess." (See the full review.)

Final performances are this weekend for the Arthur Adair-directed drama confronts modern-day conflicts in his retelling of the Greek tragedy by Euripedes.

"'Bacchae' has much to say to our society," Adair said recently when he discussed the play. "The problem is, what I think it says is not what we want to hear." (See story and comments.)

"Bacchae" will be November 21-23 in the Mainstage Theatre of the Rio Grande Campus, 1212 Rio Grande Ave. Friday-Saturday performances are 8 p.m. Sunday matinee is 2 p.m. Admission is $6. Tickets are available at the door. Theatergoers should note the play includes some nudity and is not intended for children. For more information call 223.3240.
