When you invert a number, you simply divide one by that number. If you have a calculator, it's as simple as hitting the "1/x" key. But we have to be careful when inverting numbers in scientific notation. For example, some people believe that
1 / (3.2 X 104) = 3.2 X 10-4
Confirm that this is not true by converting the number first into decimal notation, then using a calculator to compute one divided by that number. Then move on to see the real way to do it.
Here's a clue:
1/8 = 1 / (2 X 4) = (1/2) X (1/4) = 0.5 X 0.25 = 0.125
