Molly Beth Malcolm, Ed.D
Dr. Molly Beth Malcolm serves on the Chancellor’s Executive Leadership Team as an advisor on a broad scope of complex issues impacting the college and the communities it serves. She leads the Safety and Operations Department; ACC Police Department; Department of Community and Public Affairs; and International Programs. She represents the college and the Chancellor/CEO in the community, acting as a key point of contact to business leaders, government officials, international organizations, educational leaders, and the public.
Dr. Malcolm advises the Chancellor on issues related to ACC’s partnerships in the community including transportation and economic development. She also facilitates, in concert with the Chancellor, communication with the Board of Trustees.
Dr. Malcolm has been a central force in the development of ACC’s flagship Highland Campus. She oversees four campus centers including Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Campus Center; El Centro, the Latino/Latin American Studies Center; African-American Cultural Center; and Asian American and Pacific Islander Cultural Center. She led ACC’s COVID-19 response. During the pandemic, the college had no reported instances of on-campus transmission.
She is a Professor of Practice at The University of Texas at Austin, where she teaches doctoral students “Politics and Policy of Higher Education” and serves as a voting member of the Graduate Studies Committee (GSC) for the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy.
Dr. Malcolm earned her Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration from The University of Texas at Austin. A Licensed Professional Counselor, she earned an undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University and a Master of Science from Texas A&M University–Texarkana.
Throughout her career, Dr. Malcolm has worked to improve public and higher education as a teacher, counselor, and administrator. As owner of Malcolm Consulting, she assisted clients ranging from health providers to educational institutions with government relations, public policy, and community outreach. She has extensive political experience at the local, state, and national levels in elected and appointed positions, and she has coordinated various grassroots lobbying efforts at all levels of government.
An elected Texas community college trustee for six years, she was instrumental in founding the Community College Association of Texas Trustees, where she served as President. She is a life member of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT).
Dr. Malcolm currently serves on the Executive Committee of the University Federal Credit Union (UFCU) Board of Directors, a $4.5 Billion financial institution. She serves on the Austin Chamber of Commerce Opportunity Austin 5.0 Steering Committee, charged with planning for Austin’s economic development for the next five years. She serves on Austin Economic Development Corporation Board, Austin Healthcare Council Executive Board, The University of Texas UTeach Natural Sciences Advisory Council, National Security Innovation Council, Downtown Austin Alliance Board, Austin Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Council, and the Texas Lyceum Advisory Council.
A past director of the Texas Lyceum, Dr. Malcolm has a long history of civic involvement and has been the recipient of numerous awards recognizing her state and community commitment. In 2023 she was selected for the Leadership Austin Honorary Alumnus Award, given for “lifetime achievement of statesmanship and community service which epitomizes the highest standards of integrity and servant leadership.” She was selected for the 2022 Top 50 Women Leaders of Austin, was profiled in the Austin American-Stateman’s “Extraordinary Women” series, and is the recipient of the 2022 Chancellor’s Leadership Excellence Award. Other awards include the Alumni Achievement Award from Texas A&M University-Texarkana, National Women’s Political Caucus–Texas Chapter Good Gals Award, Winnsboro High School Distinguished Alumni Award, Texarkana NAACP Torchbearer Award for Extraordinary Community Contributions, Texarkana Martin Luther King Jr. Acts of Kindness Leadership Award, Texarkana Community Journal Outstanding Woman Award, Four States Living Magazine Tribute to Women Award, and the League Excellence Award from the League for Innovation in the Community College. She is a Texas Exes Alumni Association Life Member, Texas A&M University–Texarkana Alumni Association Life Member, and Southern Methodist University Alumni Association Life Member.
