About IT Operations

Mission Statement:

Information Technology Operations will provide quality products and services to ACC administrative and academic users through highly trained, motivated, and qualified people. We will effectively manage and administer the systems and processes required to provide information, which exceeds our users' requirements for confidentiality, integrity, security, reliability, and availability. We will continually work on ways of improving support for our students, other departments, and the college as a whole.

Business Overview

ACC Operations is part of the Information Technology (IT) Department at Austin Community College. We maintain and support daily processes on the administrative application server (RS6000). Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7:00 am - 12:30 am, and Saturday 8:00am - 5:00 pm. Key staff are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. IT Operations' support includes Help Desk assistance and training for faculty and staff on software applications and procedures. In addition, IT Operations provides Help Line support for students Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 9:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am - 2:00 pm during registration periods.

A crucial function of IT Operations is the support of Colleague. Colleague is the administrative application software purchased from Datatel, which provides advanced information management solutions for higher education. ACC utilizes this software to manage the data and processes for students, faculty, and staff. IT Operations maintains and supports this software.

On an average day, there are between 300 and 350 active users on the Colleague system. The Student Registration Help Line gets up to one thousand hits a day during registration periods, which occur 3 to 4 times a semester.

Operations received a level 1 Quality Award and is working on a level 2 Quality Award with the Greater Austin Quality Counsel.

Like the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the Greater Austin Quality Awards Criteria for Performance Excellence are the basis for organizational self-assessments, for making Awards, and for giving feedback to applicants. In addition, the Criteria have three other important roles in strengthening the Greater Austin Area competitiveness: to help improve performance practices and capabilities; to facilitate communication and sharing of best practices information among Central Texas organizations of all types; and to serve as a working tool for understanding and managing performance, planning, and training.
