Course Summary

Course Description:
This course is an introduction to Texas state and local
government. The course includes a framework for analyzing Texas government and
politics, the constitutional basis for Texas government and politics, the
processes of Texas government and politics, the institutions of Texas government
and politics, and the policies of Texas government and politics. However,
students do not attend scheduled classes, but study a textbook and use web-based
resources to complete assignments. Students must complete an online orientation
during the first week of classes, take all exams in ACC testing centers, and
maintain satisfactory progress in the course to remain enrolled. Students are
required to have an internet account to enroll in this course. ACC does not
provide internet accounts.
Online Orientation:
An online orientation is required for this course during
the first week of classes. Check for the link to Orientation on the bottom of
this page.
Blackboard:
We will be using Blackboard for this course. The syllabus, study questions, and course assignments,
will be posted.
If you have never used Blackboard before, you will be able to link to the
Blackboard page as soon as registration is over and all student names have been
loaded into the system. You will then be able to familiarize yourself on how to
use Blackboard.
Textbook:
The book we will be using for this course is Texas Politics
by Charldean Newell, David F. Prindle, James W. Riddlesperger Jr: Wadsworth
Cengage Learning, Eleventh Edition, 2010. There are several books on Texas Politics.
Make sure you buy the right book. The book we are using has fifteen chapters
(15).
