The years of heavy U.S. involvement in Vietnam (1965-1973) changed  America. In the view of a sizeable portion of the public, the country was involved in a war that was not necessary. The country polarized between hawks and doves. Here  is a portait of the interplay between the reporting of events, public opinion, and policy making. To what extent were theopposing sides playing to the media? War was certainly no longer a unanimous endeavor.
