George
Smith
George
wears many hats for Austin Community College. He taught the last
commercial photographic retouching and airbrush class - the bleach
and dye era, and was instrumental in migrating that course into
the first Adobe Photoshop classes in the Photographic Technology
Department. He still cuts a mean frisket and blows paint.
George
teaches a Fundamentals of Photography section and a Photographic
Darkroom Techniques section. These classes are his favorites. He
"loves to see students light up" when they see the lesson outcome.
He says, "It's almost like a birthday every class day."
He
also teaches basic computer skill building classes for the Continuing
Education division at ACC. Developing people, retooling for competitive
job markets are key points in his basic philosophy, work ethic,
life and teaching. He loves to work with senior citizens, "Those
over sixty-five are the most fun. They have so much to overcome.
They have a lot of fun and all learn something."
George
is a photographer for ACC Marketing. His work encompasses all of
the photography training offered at ACC. A workday might include
everything from a tabletop product shot to an environmental portrait
recognizing a special ACC supporter, to a reception or other high
profile ACC function.
