Information items presented:
a.) Hiring Committee – Saad Eways was not present
to discuss this topic but James Heath was part of the hiring committee and
informed everyone that 9 interviews were done and they had selected three final
candidates. A decision was not yet made
as to who would be hired as a fulltime faculty for Physics. The committee received kudos for their
arduous and Sisyphean endeavors.
b.) Evaluations - The faculty evaluations
due in February have not been done yet.
c.) Safety Training Dates – The Safety Training dates
are May 22, 2004 and August 20, 2004.
d.) Lab Specs – The accompanying handout
details the labroom specifications for new construction at CYP or
elsewhere. These have been developed by
the Long-term Planning Committee with substantial and valuable input from the
lab techs.
e.) Assets Inventory– There is going to be an
assets inventory. We haven’t been told
when or where.
f.) NASA–The NASA trip went pretty
good. It was very organized and the
students had an opportunity sampling a rover.
4.) Items
presented for discussion
a.) August Professional
Development Day – This is tenatively scheduled for Friday,
August 6.
b.) Safety Videos
– James Heath will write up a
script when he has time.
c.) SACS information – Another report is due
Monday morning. The trauma continues.

The Physics
assessments was put on hold because of SAC
The Astronomy math prerequisite will not be in the
ACC catalog until Fall 2005.
Martin Prahovic from the RGC Tutoring Lab came by to
see if anyone had questions. He was
asked how it was going with the Cutnell and Johnson textbook. He told everyone at Physics/Astronomy meeting
that the book wasn’t too much in demand but the students knew it was available
to them.
