General Items:

  1. First Fridays of the month will be reserved for Task Force meetings.
  2. The next two meetings will be the first Friday of December and February.
  3. Regarding monies designated for former department heads, the Task Force resolved that the Task Force Chair would (a) ask the Assistant Dean at NRG to bring this issue up with the Dean. Failing (a) the Task Force Chair will (b) write a memo requesting these monies be returned to the Task Force as promised in first week handouts.

Action: Jeff Bechtold requested that the Assistant Dean at NRG (David Fonken) discuss this issue with the Dean. The Assistant Dean declined. A memo was sent to the Dean expressing the Task Force’s interest in receiving these monies. The Dean returned a memo stating that the decision on the monies had been made and that it should not be revisted. He further stated that the monies were never promised to the Task Forces.
  4. Regarding Task Force accounting procedures it was resolved that the signature authorities will (a) keep hard copies of purchase requisitions and (b) meet periodically to balance the books. In addition, a memo indicating the persons who have signature authority will be sent by the Task Force Chair to the appropriate parties.

Action: Jeff Bechtold discussed signature authority with Jerry Miller, who stated that no signature checks are going to be done in the near future. Furthermore, he stated that the future automated system may not allow more than one signature to be recognized.

  5. Regarding Summer 1998 course schedule development, it was decided that scheduling information would be sent to the Task Force Chair by November 13. Jeff Bechtold outlined three classes at risk of being cut based the number of sections 69% or less full for the Summer 1997 semester. These were: GEO 1633 (6 out of 13 sections), PHY 1634 (3 out of 4 sections), PSC 1603 (5 out of 7 sections).

GEO/PSC: (did not meet separately)

PHY/ENR/AST:

  1. Regarding Physics 1634 at RVS, the Task Force decided to send a memo to the Vice President indicating the amount of support required by the College in order to maintain this program at RVS.

Action: A memo to that effect, written by Paul Williams, was sent to the Vice President.
  2. Regarding Summer 1998 scheduling it was decided that NRG would maintain the 1997 schedule for Summer 1998. RGC may add one section, but otherwise would also maintain the 1997 schedule.

Action: Summer schedules were submitted to the Dean.
  3. Scheduling efficiency, particularly at RGC, was discussed. RGC faculty will be able to alter the Fall and Spring Schedules so that all classes can be offered during prime student demand periods. NRG did not have the scheduling flexibility to alter their offering times significantly.
  4. John Cise gave a report on his discussions with UT and A+M colleges of engineering. Information on admission deadlines and admission policies regarding ACC students was given. In addition, information on how to contact admissions personnel at these colleges was provided.
