Bulletin
Wednesday, January 17, 2007: this is a special bulletin for Dr.
Owens' College Math students,
due to the delay of class until Monday.
Students:
On my first day of class, I make a special effort to ensure that my
students are enrolled in a class that is appropriate for them.
That gives them a chance, on that very first day, to use add/drops to
switch immediately to an appropriate class, and miss at most one
session of that new class.
Since our first day has been delayed until Monday, students who are
currently inappropriately registered are now faced with the possibility
of missing two days of a more
appropriate class; thus, this forewarning.
College Math is inappropriate
for you if
you do not have the prerequisites for this course (click here to
see what they are). In such a case, your appropriate
course is probably MATD 0370, Elementary
Algebra.
Not having the prerequisite is a serious defect, and may result in my
having to drop you from the course, in accordance with ACC
policy. This will not be out of meanness, but stems from a
sincere desire that my students prepare themselves for success in
mathematics! If you are dropped, you may end
up waiting until next semester to enroll in your math course, thus
delaying your program.
I have examined each student's records, and there are a number of you
that appear not to have the
prerequisites for College Math.
Please e-mail me at powens@austincc.edu,
and I will respond with my opinion (based on the records available to
me) as to whether or not you have the prerequisite. Do this today, and, if necessary, use
drop/adds today to get into
a more appropriate class, possibly starting tomorrow or Friday!
With best wishes for success in mathematics,
Dr. Owens
