These are  instructions for students on how to systematically set up and solve the types of word problems (solution, mixture, coin-stamp-ticket, interest, motion, work) commonly found in algebra textbooks.  The method uses a 5-step procedure.  Central to the method is the use of the rough equation/finished equation approach to forming the equation to be solved.

An example set of lessons that develops the vocabulary, ideas, and method for solving problems like this:
 
A chemist has on hand a supply of a 50% methyl alchohol solution and a 20% methyl alcohol
solution.  How much of each kind should he mix to produce 300 grams of a 30% methyl alcohol
solution?
