Linda Young
Special Assistant to the President, External Affairs

Linda Young, Special Assistant to the President for External Affairs at Austin Community College, has more than twenty-five years experience in higher education, including instruction, development, and administration.  She was responsible for bringing the Center for Community Based and Nonprofit Organizations to ACC, and more recently worked to help the Center for Public Policy and Political Studies come to the college.

Linda received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston, a Master’s from Sam Houston State University, and completed all but dissertation for the Ph.D. at Texas Women’s University.  She taught at both the community college and university level, and went into administration early in her career.

Prior to coming to Austin Community College in 1997, she served as CEO of a small state agency for several years, and worked for the Texas Office of the Attorney General in Research and Policy.

She has extensive political background, including campaigns on local, state and national levels, community organizing and lobby work.  Her volunteer work and political experiences have helped strengthen Linda’s interaction with policy makers, and helps her in her work on behalf of Austin Community College District.

Linda has significant experience in resource development, and a proven track record in coalition building and brokering collaborative solutions in both the public and private sector.  During the first hiatus from higher education work, she had a consulting business working with clients in resource development and fundraising with a range of public and private sector organizations.

She serves as President of the Board of Directors of the Manor Education Foundation, serves on the American Association of University Women locally, and has served on the boards such organizations as Caritas, Goodwill Industries, and five years on the Resource Council of the Community Action Network.

Linda has served in a volunteer capacity in local, state and national organizations.  She is a graduate of Leadership Texas, and was one of the early recipients (the first in Texas) of the Athena Award, a national leadership award for women.  Linda served for more than a decade on the Women’s Legislative Days committee, including serving as Chair for two terms.
