Brette Lea
Executive Director, Public Information and College Marketing
Brette Lea is the Executive Director of Public
Information and College Marketing at Austin Community College District where
she oversees publications, web design, media relations, and marketing.
Prior to coming to ACC, Brette was responsible for Public Relations at the
University of Texas at Austin Performing Arts Center, College of Fine Arts,
and Department of Theatre & Dance. Higher education communications is her
second career.
Brette is a graduate of UT-Austin. She earned a
Bachelor’s of Journalism and launched her first career in broadcasting. A
former Emmy Award-winning reporter, Brette anchored the evening news in
Houston (KPRC), Nashville (WKRN & WTVF), Greenville (WNCT), and Amarillo (KVII).
In 1996, while an investigative reporter in Houston,
she broke the Firestone tire story which led to a global recall and U.S.
Congressional investigation. In Nashville, she documented the Judd’s
farewell tour and the Clinton/Gore Inauguration. And as a cub reporter
covering courts and crime in Amarillo, Brette won a Gavel Award, presented
by the Texas Bar Association, for her series of reports on Tort Reform. In
2003, she founded The News Franchise Network, parent company of Pet Zone TV.
Now, in what she describes as “the most rewarding
position,” she works with a talented team of people to spread the word about
ACC’s diverse mission, programs & services, and vital contributions to the
community.
Brette lives in Austin with her daughter Alexis.
