The Star Award
Project Leads: Teresa Moore, Reed Stoddard, Deborah Jones
The Star Award will be created to recognize and honor an ACC administrator that has proven to be an exceptional leader in the eyes of the APTE. Voting will occur at the Fall APTE Business Meeting and the winner will be announced and recognized at the January General Assembly with a plaque and a gift basket (Starbucks Coffee, Star Furniture Gift, Star of Texas Fair and Rode T-shirt, Lone Star Riverboat Cruise, 30-minute massage from Star Trading Company, Star of India GC, and/or other “star” items.)

A Taste of ACC Cook-off
Project Leads: Melissa Richardson & Marissa Burill
This is an opportunity for ACC faculty and staff to compete for prizes and the title of Cook-off Champion. Suggested event activities include entering recipe categories, having a tasting event at the EVC campus multipurpose hall with entry tickets costing a small fee, recruiting local community culinary experts to judge the entries and awarding prizes to the winners. All recipes entered could also be compiled into a cookbook that is sold around the community.

GO GREEN Campaign
Project Lead: To be determined
In an effort to support the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment, and the new ACC Sustainability Committee, APTE will develop a project that focuses on supporting sustainability and recycling efforts at ACC that benefit our community. Suggested efforts include: recycle and reuse project, (10by 10 or 10% waste by 2010), plant a tree project, and the Green Clean Project (using non-toxic, biodegradable cleaning supplies). A committee will be formed to design and develop the project for this initiative that supports and compliments efforts already underway at ACC.

Logo Design Contest
Project Lead: Edward Terry
As we explore and revisit the purpose of the organization, it will be important to establish a plan to market the benefits of APTE to current and new employees. We would like to host a contest for members to design a logo that represents the associations purpose at ACC.

APTE Leadership Training Program
Project Leads: APTE Officers
Participating in an employee association at ACC provide many positive opportunities to demonstrate and practice leadership and management skills. The activities that the organizations undertake and in which officers, council members and general members are able to participate, breed opportunities for growth and greater understanding in the areas of:
• Interpersonal Communication
• Project Management
• Business Practices
• Productivity
• Philanthropy
• Public Speaking
• Networking
• Diplomacy
• Stress Management (Intrapersonal Skills)
• Community College Knowledge (Governmental Relations, Institutional Effectiveness, etc.)
Based on this information, we would like the opportunity to further research how ACC can provide additional recognition through CEUs, Certificates, Award Ceremonies or other credentialing incentives to employees that actively participate in these associations and make a positive impact on others at ACC.

Spanish Conversation Lunch Series
Project Lead: Susan Thomason
This project will be designed to help ACC faculty and staff practice Spanish language vocabulary that specifically relates to education and student services. The project may include monthly meetings to discuss articles written in Spanish about education, guest facilitators from varying Latin American countries to discuss regional language variations, and an evaluation tool to help determine ongoing needs.

Mug Hug Fundraising Project – Phase II
Project Leads: Shari Rodriquez & Rebecca Robinson-Francis
In May of 2008, APTE managed a fundraising project to support the association’s emergency fund and the college’s scholarship fund through the ACC Foundation. Volunteers from every campus participate in this project. Approximately 50% of the Mug Hug favors were sold totaling $1500 in revenue while the remaining 50% will be repackaged and sold during the 2008/9 Academic year. Project team will explore the possibility of generating ongoing online sales.
