Class of 2008: Ceremony and celebration

Rita Escobar celebrated two milestones when she participated in Austin Community College’s 35th annual commencement exercises Thursday, May 8, at the Austin Convention Center.

“I’m celebrating my birthday,” said Escobar, adjusting her mortarboard in a mirror before the ceremony, “and all my family and friends are here to see me graduate.”

Escobar was among the 1,800 graduates who made up the class of 2008. However, not all walked the stage. About 370 students attended the ceremony to accept their associate degrees and technical certificates.

Inspired by a daughter with a learning disability, Escobar studied child development at ACC. She was awarded a certificate in her major and someday hopes to work with other children who have special needs. First, she wants to earn an associate degree at ACC. Read the rest of this entry »

ACC Election News

Austin, TX – May 9, 2008 – Dr. Stephen Kinslow, president and CEO of the Austin Community College District, will be available for interviews Saturday evening in Round Rock to discuss the results of the elections. Cadets Ready for Careers as Central Texas Firefighters

Austin, TX – May, 9, 2008 – Twenty-nine ACC Fire Academy cadets will culminate 16 weeks of intense training by receiving their firefighter certifications during a graduation ceremony Saturday, May 10, at 7 p.m. in Taylor High School, 3101 N. Austin, TX – May 2, 2008 – Austin Community College will host the Immigration, Education, and Our Future conference at St. Edward’s University on Friday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
