Announcements:

• Conferences -- CASP -- October 5-7, College Station, Texas
• Send Travel Requests to Dolores Segura

White Paper -- Discussion and approval:  Members of the task force discusses the white paper and recommended that Deanna Johnson, SAS representative, share the document with the SAS committee as a draft document.  the document cannot be disseminated without task force approval.

Closing the Gaps Goals:  Members of the task force received copies of the document stating the goals for Closing the Gaps.

Developmental Communication Goals:  Several of the goals for developmental communications are similar to the goals of Closing the Gaps.  Developmental Communications Task Force members stress student retention and success as a goal.  This goal is linked with the goals of Closing the Gaps.

Reports:

• Budget / Textbooks:  Mary Leonard reported that all textbooks had been ordered and the budget for the FY 2005-2006 had not been distributed.  Hourly rates increased for the new academic year.
• Assessment Advising:  Committee report presented.
• Adjunct Hiring:  Dorothy Martinez and the adjunct hiring committee interviewed adjunct faculty and recommended hiring adjunct faculty.  Three adjunct faculty members hired on an emergency basis and they would go through the hiring committee in the fall.  If approved they would be entered on the eligibility list.
• Fall schedule update:  all classes are staffed
• Spring, 2006 schedule update:  Review the spring schedule for changes and corrections.  Faculty assignments are due.  Faculty must send preferences to D. Segura
