2008 OUTSTANDING BUSINESS STUDIES PROFESSOR

Ina Midkiff is the Department Head of Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, and Real Estate.  She has taught at Austin Community College for over 20 years.  She earned a BBA and an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Tarleton State University. Over the years she has served as Division Chair of Business Studies Division, Department Chair of Management, Associate Dean at Cypress Creek Campus, Assistant Department Chair of Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, and Real Estate and served as an officer of Austin Community College’s Faculty Association. She also has had several consulting jobs for small Internet companies. She teaches Advertising, Marketing, and Financial Management courses.

She received the ACC Teaching Excellence Award for the outstanding full-time faculty member (2004-2005) of the year in May 2005. She was the 2002 Piper Professor Nominee from Austin Community College.  In 1991 she received the NISOD Teaching Excellence Award at ACC and has been nominated several times as the outstanding full-time instructor at ACC by the Phi Theta Kappa student association.  Her professional affiliations include Texas Community College Teachers Association and the Southwestern Administrative Disciplines in Marketing.  She also serves on the YMCA Northwest Board of Directors.

Margie has been with ACC for 19 years and in the Business Studies area for 18 years.  Her first position with the college was in the Professional Development Department. After a year she transferred to The Business Studies area where she has been the Administrative Assistant for the Financial Management, Marketing, and Real Estate Departments.  Recently, the departments and Margie have relocated to the Cypress Campus.

Margie has served on numerous ACC committees along with holding several officer positions within the ACC Classified Employee Association.  During her term as President of the Classified Association she campaigned for Stipends for Classified officers, equal cost living raise for all employees including frozen employees and helped to organize the first College-wide ACC Picnic and softball tournament.

Mario Aguilar is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Real Estate and Legal Assistant Departments. He has taught at Austin Community College (ACC) for more than seven years. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Aguilar attended the University Of Texas Graduate School Of Business. At ACC, Mr. Aguilar has enjoyed membership and participation on various college-wide committees including the Real Estate Advisory Committee, Faculty Evaluations, Hispanic Arts Festival, International Programs, Hispanic Student Association, Adjunct Faculty Association, Hispanic Reception Committee and the Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education. He is a member of the Texas Bar Association.

Mr. Aguilar has more than 25 years of professional and management experience in various positions including Senior Attorney, Executive Assistant, Manager, Research Associate, Editor, Trainer and Counselor at local, state and national programs. He has counseled, represented and/or work with real estate agents, brokers, appraisers, banks, homebuyers, developers, construction companies and real estate development companies. He was a Senior Attorney at two State Agencies responsible for the administration of more than 300 million dollars in public housing and real estate programs. He helped design, manage and implement the state’s Single Family Housing, Mortgage Credit Certificate, Multi-Family Housing and the Low Income Tax Credit Programs.

Carol Alonzi is a licensed attorney with a practice that is centered on real estate. She is also a licensed real estate Broker and property manager. She teaches real estate classes for the continuing education department at ACC. She has been an adjunct instructor at ACC in the real estate department for the last two years.

Ms. Alonzi holds a JDL from the University of Houston, a B.A. from the University of Texas and an Associate Degree in Real Estate from Austin Community College. In 1996, she received the Chair’s Award for the Austin Adopt a School program for her work with a drop out intervention program at a local high school.

Stacia L. Ashmore is an instructor for Austin Community College, as an Adjunct Assistant Professor since 2001. She is qualified to teach Real Estate Appraisal, Property Management, Principles I & II, Law of Contracts, Law of Agency and Texas Notary Law. These classes have been approved by the Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board (TALCB) and the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) to qualify toward licensing requirements.  Stacia has completed course work at the University of Texas, Austin, in the field of Education and Educational Psychology and has earned an Associates Degree of Applied Science in Real Estate from Austin Community College.

Stacia L. Ashmore has been involved in real estate since 1991. Stacia has experience in the areas of loan processing, real estate sales transactions representing both buyers and sellers, consultation, property management, leasing and residential appraisals. Stacia has been appraising on a full time basis since 1998.  Stacia is a state certified residential appraiser, Certification #TX-1329540-R and is the founder and sole proprietor of Texas Hill Country Appraisals since 2000.  Stacia is also a licensed real estate broker, Broker License #0478152, and is the founder and sole proprietor of Texas Hill Country Real Estate Services, offering full brokerage and property management services for residential properties.

Steve Bradley is the Assistant Department Chair of the Management Department and is currently head of the Management Advisory Committee. He has taught at Austin Community College more than twenty years and has held positions of Department Chair for both Management and Real Estate.  He holds a BBA degree from Texas State University and an MBA degree Texas State University.  He has completed graduate work in Marketing and Management at Texas A&I University.  He also has an AAS degree in Real Estate from Austin Community College.  In addition, he is a graduate of the Realtors Institute (GRI), holds a Texas State Real Estate Brokers License and is a member of the Texas Community College Teachers Association

After receiving a BBA and an MBA from Texas State University, Steve joined Xerox Corporation in Austin as a sales representative mostly to state government, and then became a duplicator products manager with Xerox.  After leaving Xerox, Steve began a career in Real Estate and construction while coming to Austin Community College as an Adjunct Instructor of Management and Real Estate.    He has served on numerous committees at ACC including Salary and Benefits, Budget, Facilities, Reorganization and Text Book.  Steve is currently a member of the ACC Faculty Senate where he has enjoyed numerous years of service and affiliation both as a member and an officer.

Pete Glover has been licensed to practice real estate by the Texas Real Estate Commission since 1973.  He is currently the broker/owner of Pete Glover, REALTOR, specializing in residential and commercial sales, property management and leasing services.  Mr. Glover is a member of National Association of REALTORS, Texas Association of REALTORS, Austin Board of REALTORS, and the Austin Central Texas Realty Information Service.  He has taught at Austin Community College as an adjunct professor of Real Estate for 28 years.  He teaches all areas offered by the Real Estate Department including college credit, continuing education, and mandatory Texas Real Estate Commission courses.

Mr. Glover earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from the University of Connecticut at Storrs, Connecticut, and also holds an Associate Degree of Real Estate from Austin Community College.  He was awarded his pilot wings after graduating from United States Air Force pilot training in 1967.  He served as a pilot in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War flying 100+ combat missions.  During his service, he was awarded the Air Force Air Medal with oak leaf clusters.  In 2004 he was honored by receiving the NISOD Teaching in Excellence Award which is awarded by the College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin.

Gordon Gorychka, who is currently active in real estate, began his career in real estate in 1973 as a sales person, and two years later obtained his broker’s license. His educational background includes a Bachelors of Science Degree from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in Business Administration with specializations in Marketing and Advertising, and a MBA from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. In addition to Gordon’s college education he also possesses the following designations from the National Association of Realtors®::Graduate of the Realtor Institute (GRI), Certified Residential Broker (CRB), and Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR).

Gordon Gorychka started actively training agents entering the real estate profession in 1975, and continues to do so as an Adjunct Professor of Real Estate for Austin Community College. He also provides training and seminars for the Austin Board of Realtors® and the Texas Association of Realtors®. In addition to teaching real estate courses, Gordon has authored course texts on Agency, Risk Reduction, Buyer Agency, Contracts, and Property Tax Appeals. Many of the texts are still in use today, and provide for credit under TREC’s Mandatory Education Requirements.  His extensive background in real estate and the license act also has him retained as an Expert Witness.

Gordon has also been recognized for performance in the real estate industry: Austin Board of Realtors® – “Distinguished Service Award”, 2000, Texas Association of Realtors® – “Educator of the Year”, 2002,Austin Board of Realtors® – “Chairman’s Special Award”, 2006, and Austin Board of Realtors® – “Realtor® of the Year”, 2007

Wade Lanford has been associated with Austin Community College since 1994. He has been an instructor in Continuing Education and an Adjunct Professor in the Real Estate Department. Mr. Lanford has taught every subject in the Real Estate curriculum and currently specializes in real estate finance and investment.

Wade received an associate’s degree in Real Estate Brokerage from ACC and a Business degree from St. Edwards University. He has twenty-five years experience in real estate finance, development and investing. He is currently the Executive Director of the Public Utility Commission of Texas and was previously Chief Administrative Officer of the Texas Department of Commerce. Mr. Lanford is also on the Board of Capital Certified Development Corporation, the largest SBA real estate lender in Texas.

John McCoy is an adjunct Assistant Professor in the Real Estate. Mr. McCoy began teaching at ACC in the continuing education Real Estate area in 1993 and later began teaching credit Real Estate courses. He has the professional designation Certified Real Estate Instructor (CREI) which he earned in 1997 from the Texas Real Estate Teacher’s Association.  According to the Texas Real Estate Commission, a CREI qualifies the holder to teach any and all real estate core real estate courses.  Mr. McCoy also holds an Associate Degree in Real Estate from ACC.

Mr. McCoy graduated from Southern Illinois University with a BA in History and Asian Studies in 1965.  He then served 20 years in the United States Air Force and retired at Bergstrom Air Force Base here in Austin in 1985. Mr. McCoy became a Texas Real Estate Sales Licensee in 1983.  In 1986 he became a Texas Real Estate Broker and created his own brokerage specialty in acreage, farm and ranch land.  Mr. McCoy joined Keller Williams Realty (KWR) in 1989 and worked there until 1995.  He taught in the KWR new agent training program. In 1995 McCoy Realty was started and Mr. McCoy supervised eleven licensees one at a time.  Currently it is a single agent realty.

2008 OUTSTANDING BUSINESS STUDIES ADJUNCT PROFESSOR

Phylis Molina has been associated with Austin Community College since 2000.  Phylis has a Masters degree in Business Administration Management and previously taught in Venezuela.  Phylis has been a Texas licensed real estate broker since 1988 and has extensive Experience in Business Management, Real Estate Sales, and Education.  Phylis currently teaches courses taught include Real Estate Principles, Contracts, Law of Agency, Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Math, Real Estate Marketing, and Property Management.

Phylis has received the following awards:  Excellence in Teaching Award Recipient - 2005: National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development - University of Texas Austin and Virtual College of Texas Grant Recipient - 2007: On-line Real Estate Math class development proposal.  Phylis serves on the Austin Community College Real Estate Advisory Commission and is a member of the Austin Board of Realtors, Texas Association of Realtors, National association of Realtors and the Texas Real Estate Teachers Association

Vance E. Powell III has been instructing part-time at Austin Community College for the past 3 years. Prior part-time teaching experience includes 4 years with the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and 6 years with the American College of Real Estate. Vance is an independent Fee Appraiser and Market Analyst. His appraisal experience encompasses all types of commercial and residential properties. Since 1973 he has been actively involved in numerous aspects of the real estate profession and is experienced in real property appraisal, acquisition, development, counseling, financing, management, and instruction.  He has testified as an expert witness in Bexar, Comal, Dallas, Harris, Travis, and Williamson Counties in Texas. Mr. Powell holds a BBA from the University of Texas with a concentration in Real Estate.

He has been very active in serving in the professional appraisal associations being elected the local SREA Chapter President during 1987-1988. Other positions include 3 years as the Vice chair (1985, 1986, and 1987) on the National SREA Foundation and the National Continuing Education Committee, six years on the SREA Standard of Professional Practice committee, two years (1989-1990) on the AIREA Regional Standards Committee, 4 years on the Regional Standards of Professional Practice Committee for the newly merged Appraisal Institute, two years on the AIREA National Division of Professional Recognition Committee 1989-1990, and during 1991 he served on the Appraisal Institute’s National Public Relations Committee and was an elected one of the Chapter Regional Representatives.

David Schuler, a native of Austin, Texas. A real estate broker, licensed since 1978, and is certified by The Texas Real Estate Commission as a Texas Real Estate Instructor. 

David Schuler is a graduate of Austin Community College, A.A.S. in Real Estate, St. Edwards University, B.L.S. Real Estate, and is currently in gradate studies at Southern Methodist University (SMU). 

Schuler brings to the classroom more than 30 years of real estate practice, demonstrating diversity in experience of residential and commercial real estate investments.

Scott Sims is an adjunct professor in Financial Management and Real Estate.  He has taught courses in Marketing, Financial Management and Real Estate since joining the faculty at Austin Community College for the Spring Semester of 2007. 

Scott has been a licensed real estate agent for 25 years and a real estate broker for 22 years. He has had his own brokerage office in Austin for the past 20 years. He earned a Bachelors of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Austin in Real Estate and Finance in 1986.   Scott worked previously in his family's real estate business and taught real estate classes at Odessa College.
