ACC: Find a Job or Internship for Students

Texas Real Estate Exam Prep

This is provided at no cost to those ACC Real Estate students who are preparing to take the state-mandated exam to become Real Estate Licensees in Texas. It is not an official or TREC sanctioned testing mechanism but is meant to significantly increase your preparedness for taking the Proctored Exam given by PSI (Psychological Services, Inc.) in Texas. This course covers both the state and the national portion of the exam. In order for this testing module to be truly effective you should have completed pre-license educational coursework.
Using the test/review process to determine areas of weakness and build a foundation of knowledge, this course includes four separate practice exams. Like the official exam that you will take to gain your license, these exams are comprised of questions dealing with issues applicable nationwide, and with Texas-specific issues. To help you retain the information presented here, these subject areas are presented separately and all questions have feedback to explain the correct answer.

Course Dates and Time

Gap Inc., a national retail chain, is one of six charter companies to initiate Skills for America's Future, an industry-led initiative to improve industry partnerships with community colleges and build a nationwide network to maximize workforce development strategies, job training program and job placement. Gap Inc. chose to partner with Austin Community College. According to Ina Midkiff, Department Chair, who is helping to coordinate the workshop, ACC was chosen because of its commitment to helping students prepare not just for entry level jobs but skills that will help them move up in companies.

This is a great way for students to receive current information from people in the industry on what it takes to get a job in the 2013 job market. The three modules in the workshop are fun and engaging, and cover everything from identifying your personal communication style, how to work with other styles effectively, how to make the most of your time and finish everything important, and lastly, how write an effective résumé and be prepared to put your best foot forward in your interviews. As an option, after completing the workshop there is an opportunity to participate in a job shadow at one of the local stores and take part in a mock interview with a Gap, Inc. leader.

In addition to providing the workshop, Gap Inc. is offering scholarships and job placement opportunities to qualified Austin Community College students. Fashion merchandising and design students are not the only ones to benefit from the workshop. These skills transfer to students in business, communication and marketing. Fashion and Marketing Majors at ACC will be given priority, but the workshop is open to all ACC students.

ACC is offering students the opportunity to learn from the real-world experience of their Leaders and their in-house training. Be sure and take advantage of this unique workshop and remember, those who participate in the workshop are eligible to apply for the scholarships.
