About me

After finishing graduate studies (master’s degree) in physics at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, I was accepted as a graduate student in the doctoral program of the Department of Physics at the University of Texas at Austin. The years my wife and I spent in Austin were life changing ones. Not only I earned a Ph.D. in physics, but also made lasting friendships and developed a strong bond to a charming, green, progressive, culturally rich and diverse, small (in the eyes of someone who always lived in São Paulo) and yet cosmopolitan city of Austin. Soon after graduation we returned to Brazil where I held an Associate Researcher position at the Institute for Advanced Studies, located in the city of São José dos Campos.

Three years later we returned to Austin and have been here ever since. My research work in physics had always involved extensive computational work, which, allied with the fast growing software job market in Austin, led me to pursue a career in the software industry. As a result, I went back to graduate school and earned an M.S. in computer sciences from the University of Texas at Austin. I worked for eighteen year as software developer in the telecommunication industry and am an Adjunct Professor of Physics at Austin Community College. and a lecturer in the Department of Physics at Texas State University.

When I am not working, I like to watch soccer games (I am a São Paulo Futebol Clube fan), hike at Zilker Park, row at the Lady Bird Lake (I have been a member of the Texas Rowing Center for over a decade), enjoy good food and wine with wife and friends, chill with my son, listen to music (classical, jazz, blues, rock and Brazilian music are my favorites), travel or make plans for the next trip. I am also interested in history of science and topics related to religions and spirituality. As much as I enjoy living in Austin, I still wished the summers were a little cooler and the ocean a little closer.

This semester (Fall 2017) I am teaching
