ACCESS Student Agreement

Welcome!    The Office Administration department is happy to offer you a traditional lecture/lab format as a 16-week Access course this semester.   As there are many printouts to turn in, we will have to be very organized in order to learn concepts and skills needed to master Access, the leading database software.   We will learn how to design, update and manage a relational database.

It is very important that you be responsible for your learning process.   I believe that our Office Administration courses will help your transition into today's business office.  Let’s be true office professionals by attending class regularly and on time.  Your employer will make better use of your talents if you display that you are a very reliable and dependable administrative professional who has a good working attitude, critical thinking skills, and human relations skills.  (See SCANS competencies for our field)

In order to conduct our class in a businesslike manner, I agree to the following conditions and will add five of my own goals/objectives.  I plan to:

Ø      Attend class regularly and on time.  I realize that I can be dropped from the class for non-attendance

Ø      Be considerate of fellow students, instructors and lab personnel

Ø      Rely on the syllabi and schedule of assignments to organize my work habits

Ø      Be prepared for all theory tests and performance evaluations.  I will miss tests ONLY in case of extreme circumstances.   I realize that I will take tests at the same time as other students IN CLASS

Ø      Check instructor’s web page for course information.  Use chapter note pages to make my own notes (Go to web page, use Edit with Word, then enter and save notes to your disk)     www.austincc.edu/ronicook

Ø      Use the Shelly Cashman web site as a test review.

Ø      Ask questions during class.  I will participate actively in the learning process and may help other students during lab time.  When you teach, you learn twice.

Ø      Participate in large-group and small-group demonstrations/lectures.

Ø        See instructor during office hours if I need additional help in this course.   www.austincc.edu/ronicook

Ø      Use instructor’s voice mail for short messages (state name and phone number clearly) (223-5841)

Ø        Use E-mail for longer messages in order to have good communication with instructor (vcook@austincc.edu )

Ø      I also agree that I will not use the Office Administration Flex Lab for routine test-taking purposes.  I will not turn in work to be checked to Office Administrator Flex Lab Instructor of Record.  There will be no test retakes.   Otherwise, there will be a late penalty assessed for late tests.  Tests must be made up before taking the NEXT test.
