Course Description

The ACC catalog describes the course as an “advanced office application with special emphasis on decision making, goal setting, management theories, and critical thinking.”

Students will use a textbook and office simulation to obtain much-needed skills for employment in the business office.  Daily work based on a corporate intranet will prepare students for unit tests.  The office simulation will consist of various projects using software applications.  The office simulation will take from 30 to 40 hours to complete, dependent on student’s keyboarding speed, ability to follow instructions, time management skills and knowledge of software applications.

Daily Work:

All daily work will be turned in using ASSIGNMENT LINK IN BLACKBOARD.  The file will containing student name, module or project and job number.   Cover sheets will be used only for complete modules or projects.  Points for each problem will be assigned using a project or module grade sheet.  Some modification of point values may be used at the instructor’s discretion.  If assignment is not turned in according to directions and on time, a grade of 0 will be recorded.  In unusual circumstances, students may contact instructor 24 HOURS before due date to discuss a ONE-TIME ONLY EXTENSION.

For Outlook, AutoDialer or AutoCorrect projects, you must use the following procedure to send work.  Follow the directions in the book until you are ready to print.  Since we WILL NOT be turning in printouts, follow these steps:  press the PrintScreen button on your keyboard, then press Control C (to copy), open Microsoft Word, press Control V (paste).  Then save your document and send using ASSIGNMENT LINK.  If you use the flex lab for Outlook, contact network administrator for an individual log-on so that you can save your calendar for the semester.

Project deadlines are assigned on a weekly basis.  Students may be withdrawn for lack of progress.  Please set up an appointment to see me if I can help you in this class.  (You will receive training on how to turn in assignments during orientation.)  Quizzes and turning in daily work will be discussed in orientation.  IT IS VITAL that students attend the one-hour orientation covering Blackboard and Sports Connection.  Changes in directions will be made 2 -10 days before assignment is due, so be sure to read ALL announcements, e-mails and discussion board items on a continual basis. (just like the real world)

Evaluation  (You will receive Semester Grade Sheet to help you compute your grade)  Individual grades will be posted in Blackboard.  Grades may not be discussed by telephone.

CORPORATE VIEW

How will Corporate View benefit the student?

Corporations love Intranets because they:

  • Are easy and inexpensive to set up.
  • Require very little employee training.
  • Allow rapid and effective sharing of corporate information

But Intranets are not just the "information infrastructure" of big business. Small businesses can set up Intranets for a few dollars per employee and have unparalleled access services at their fingertips, including the following:

  • Web pages customized to employee needs
  • Email and a corporatewide electronic address book
  • Online group planning software
  • Financial reports, sales forecasts, and marketing plans
  • Corporate communications of all kinds, like corporate press releases
  • Human Resources information, including job descriptions, policies and procedures, and benefits information
  • FAQs provided by the Information Technology team
  • Customer Support product service reports
  • The latest developments in R&D
  • Information about competitive products and pricing
  • Audio, video, and animations when required
  • E-commerce tools
  • Push technology to "push" important information directly to the employee's desk at an instant
