Advanced IV Therapy and Flow Rate Problems/ Learn
Charolotte Cooper & Jean Montgomery, Austin Community College

The patient's weight is an important factor and is often recalculated on a daily basis. Healthcare providers must be able to convert weight from pounds to kilograms and vice versa as a foundation to computing the correct dose for these types of IV drugs. If needed, review the Conversion Module.

In general healthcare providers should:
1. Convert the ordered dosages to the flow rate necessary to administer them and then
2. Use that flow rate to calculate the dose infusing at any given moment (or back solve).
3. Round all answers to nearest whole number except weight. When converting weight from pounds to kilograms, round to nearest tenths place.

Let's work some problems!
