QEP stands for Quality Enhancement Plan, a significant component of the SACSCOC (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) reaffirmation of accreditation process.
SACSCOC defines the QEP as a "carefully designed and focused course of action that addresses a well-defined topic or issue related to enhancing student learning." The QEP gives ACC the opportunity to develop a targeted five-year plan that improves some aspect of its students' education.
After gathering input from faculty, staff, and students, ACC adopted a QEP focusing on student success in Developmental Mathematics.
Why a Developmental Math QEP?
Research indicates that Developmental Math is the leading cause of student failure and withdrawal at the post-secondary level.
ACC's QEP, Math PLUS, will make Developmental Math more engaging, more relevant, and more enjoyable for students.
Math PLUS - Practice, Learn, Understand, Succeed
Math PLUS is an innovative model for student learning, anchored by a new course, “Basic Math with Collaborative Learning.”
The new class will allow students to:
- Use hands-on applications to practice math skills.
- Learn math-specific study techniques.
- Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through activities with fellow students.
- Take advantage of extra lab time for math practice with one-on-one help.
The first phase of Math PLUS is scheduled to launch in spring 2013, when the college pilots the new math class. Visit this site for the latest updates.
