NAEYC released the newly published Accreditation Standards and Criteria and Self Study Kit in December 2005. Changes were introduced to increase credibility, reliability and accountability in NAEYC Accreditation. For child care programs, it is a mark of quality. NAEYC Accreditation helps programs to create better programs and tells families, "We're doing it right."

In January 2006, the Child Care Quality Improvement Project became The Accreditation Project and added services to increase understanding and successful use of the new NAEYC Accreditation tools. In addition to the in depth, full service model of support, a short term, " Fix -It" format is offered to directors of all centers interested in consulting / technical assistance focused on a specific aspect of the new NAEYC Accreditation process. If your program achieved NAEYC Accreditation in the past and is concerned about the new Standards and Criteria, or your program is considering NAEYC Accreditation for the first time, The Accreditation Project is here to help you to use the new NAEYC Accreditation self study tools and engage in self study to identify strengths and areas for continued program improvement.
