St. David’s Healthcare and Austin Community College were recently awarded a $2,000,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to fund an innovative registered nurse fellowship pilot program in Austin. The objective of the two-year grant is to recruit, train and retain registered nurses in three specialty areas: Critical Care, Emergency and Perioperative nursing. This program is a collaborative effort between Austin Community College and the St. David's Healthcare, and is funded by the President's High Growth Job Training Initiative.
This is a unique opportunity for a select number of eligible candidates employed or seeking employment in the St. David’s Healthcare whose professional goal is to advance into a specialty nursing career. St. David’s Healthcare and Austin Community College will provide comprehensive training in one of three specialty areas: Critical care, Emergency or Perioperative Nursing. There will be four groups of fifteen to twenty fellows selected over the two years. The first group started in the summer of 2004. This program is similar to a medical residency program and is designed for each group to run two years in length.
