Austin Community College maintains an Academic Standards of Progress system for monitoring students’ academic progress, as detailed in the chart below.
Note: Financial aid students must also comply with the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy for Financial Aid Recipients.
| Academic Standards of Progress |
Academic Standing |
Definition/Action Required |
Good Standing
(GDS) |
Students who maintain a minimum of cumulative 2.0 grade point average (GPA) and/or cumulative 50 percent course completion rate. |
Early Alert
(ERA) |
Students who do not meet a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA and a cumulative 50 percent course completion rate any time after their second semester or after earning six college credits, whichever comes first. Students are notified by letter of their academic standing and encouraged to meet with a counselor. |
Warning
(WRN) |
Students who do not meet a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA and a cumulative 50 percent course completion rate. Students are notified by letter that they must meet with a counselor to develop a Performance Improvement Agreement and register for classes. |
Suspension
(SUS) |
Students who do not meet a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA and a cumulative 50 percent course completion rate. Students are notified by letter that they are suspended from ACC enrollment for the next semester and the accompanying summer. Students on a second or subsequent suspension are suspended from ACC for a calendar year. |
Probation
(PBN) |
Students re-entering ACC after suspension receive a letter notifying them of their status and requirements. Students remain on probation as long as they maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and a 50 percent course completion rate for each semester, until they achieve good standing. |
