Individuals whose primary language is not English and International students must take an assessment before they can register for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes. Assessment results are used to place students in the appropriate ESOL classes.
English as a Second Language assessments are given at campus Assessment Centers. Assessment includes two to three hours of testing and a personal interview. Three skills are evaluated: reading, writing, and listening/speaking.
The ESL assessment is also used to determine if an international student does not need ESOL classes and can be placed in college-level courses.
International students
International students should contact the International Student Office before scheduling an ESL assessment at ACC.
