Testing accommodations

Special test accommodations for each student are determined by an OSD specialist, usually the OSD supervisor. Reasonable test accommodations may include:

• Extended time
• Supervised breaks
• A quiet room
• Oral testing
• Use of readers, scribes, adaptive equipment, or calculator, etc.

Who is eligible?

The student should have already provided proof of a need for test accommodations in the form of an eligibility letter from OSD

Administering exams through OSD

Faculty must complete the following steps to administer a test or quiz through OSD:

1. Complete the top portion of the OSD Exam Assistance Request Form.

2. Deliver the form along with the exam in person to the OSD office, by faxing, or placing in the OSD campus mailbox at the campus where the exam will be administered. Exams should be delivered to OSD by the following deadline:

• Three business days in advance for exams that need to be enlarged or put on cassette tape
• One business day in advance for other exams

3. A note must be attached to the exam explaining any special action to be taken by OSD (i.e., call instructor when exam is completed, students in this class are permitted to use a calculator, this is a take-home test, etc.)

4. Arrange pop quizzes with OSD staff. Students who need accommodations may then be excused from class to take the quiz in the OSD. Remember, additional time will be necessary for students to complete the quiz, so please arrange quizzes at the end of the class period to prevent students from missing any lecture or other important class information.

5. All exams will be returned to the instructor’s faculty mailbox unless other arrangements are made.
