Reminder – two easy ways to get medical care
Students or their family members who need convenient, walk-in health care now have several options in Austin.  Some CVS pharmacy stores around town include MinuteClinic facilities.  According to their website, MinuteClinic is a retail healthcare provider offering treatment for common family ailments (such as strep throat, ear infections, sinus infections, etc.) and vaccinations at affordable prices.  Most insurance is accepted and services cost between $28 and $110.  MinuteClinics are open 7 days a week from 8 AM to 8 PM.  To find a MinuteClinic near you, go to www.minuteclinic.com or call 866-389-2727.

Also, several area HEB Stores have RediClinic facilities inside their locations.  RediClinic provides easy access to affordable and convenient healthcare.  They provide health screening tests, flu shots, and other health related services.  For more information or to find a location near you, go to www.rediclinic.com.

Don’t let the flu get you!
Several ACC students and staff have been affected by the flu in recent weeks. Here are a few tips from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help you stay healthy and avoid the flu.

  1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  2. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze— then throw the tissue away after you use it.
  3. Wash your hands often with soap and water to help protect you from germs.  If water is not near, use an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
  4. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs are often spread this way.
  5. Practice other healthy habits.  Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

Want to transfer to UT?
Start the process by attending an information session where you can meet representatives from UT and learn about Admissions, campus life, and more!  The meeting will be on Wednesday, February 6th, 12 – 1:30 PM at the ACC Eastview Campus, 8000 Building room 8500.  Click here for details.  International students are also encouraged to view the UT International Admission website, http://www.utexas.edu/student/admissions/international/.

Beware of recent Financial Aid scams
Watch out for financial aid scams!  Several ACC students have contacted the college about letters they received from an agency offering to help them get financial aid.  The letter included a Student Profile Number assigned to them by the agency, asked them to submit an application and pay a fee (around $40 to $50) for assistance in securing financial aid.  The ACC Financial Aid Office would like to remind you that when it comes to financial aid for college, “If you have to pay money to get money, it’s probably a scam.  You won’t get any better information or financial aid than you can get from the free services available from any school financial aid office.” If you have any doubts about financial aid information that you receive, always check with the ACC Financial Aid Office.  You can also contact the International Student Office for help.
