Hooray! Spring Break is next week, March 10th – 14th! We know you’re excited about the much needed break from classes, but before you start your fun, be sure to read the tips below on how to be a Smart Spring Breaker.
I’m leaving the country during Spring Break. What do I need?
If you have an F-1 visa and plan to travel outside of the U.S., be sure to check your travel documents before you leave. Below is a list of travel documents you should take with you:
Valid passport and F-1 visa
- Valid I-20 with current signature – If the signature on page 3 is more than one year old, come to the ISO to get a new signature.
I-94 card - **Do not give up your I-94 card when you leave the U.S. You should keep it until you come back in to the country. When you re-enter the country, the Immigration official will re-stamp your card and give it back to you.
Proof of enrollment at ACC – You can get an ACC Enrollment Verification letter from the ISO or an official transcript from any campus admissions office.
Visitor visa, if necessary – Before you leave the United States, contact the consulate of the country to be visited to inquire about visa and travel procedures. Citizens from certain countries will need to obtain a visitor visa in order to enter Canada or Mexico. If you have a question about this, please contact the ISO for help.
When you are traveling, be sure to keep your travel documents in a safe place at all times and do not lose them.
I’m taking a trip but I’m not leaving the country, so do I need my travel documents?
We recommend that you carry your immigration documents with you even if you are traveling WITHIN the U.S., especially CLOSE TO THE BORDER, such as South Padre, Big Bend, South Texas or Galveston. You could be stopped at an immigration checkpoint! Be sure to carry your passport, F-1 visa, I-20 and I-94 card and make sure they are current. If you are not sure about your travel documents, just call or come by the ISO for help. Be sure to keep your travel documents in a safe place and don’t lose them.

I am a citizen of another country and I want to visit Mexico. What do I need to do?
Mexico is a popular destination for many spring break trips. If you are not a U.S. citizen and you want to visit Mexico, you should go to http://www.sre.gob.mx/english/services/visasforeigners.htm#1 to see if you need a visitor visa to enter Mexico. If you need more information about this, please contact:
Mexican Consulate in Austin
