Assessments and tests

The OSD supervisor determines testing accommodations for each student.  Tests may be administered in the student’s classroom, in a campus testing center, or in a campus OSD.  Only students with “Extended testing time – OSD” specified in their accommodations letter for a specific class will be allowed to test in OSD.

The following guidelines are for students taking tests in OSD:

  1. It is the student’s responsibility to inform instructors that the student will be taking tests in OSD.
  2. Students are responsible for scheduling a time to take their exams in OSD and for communicating the scheduled date with their instructor.
  3. Students must schedule their exam times at least five days in advance.  Students should be prepared to provide the course number, course name, section number, test/exam number, and instructor’s name.
  4. Drop-in testing is not permitted.
  5. Students must take exams at their scheduled time.  Rescheduling due to lack of preparation time, etc.,  is not permitted.  If you are 15 or more minutes late, you are considered to be a “no show.”
  6. Auxiliary aids (i.e., calculator, formula sheets) will not be allowed unless your instructor has already authorized them or use is mandated in your list of OSD authorized reasonable accommodations.
  7. Exams must be completed during the scheduled session.  Whatever is turned in will be sent to the instructor.
  8. An instructor’s note is required for all exams that will be split into two or more sessions.
  9. If a test session exceeds two hours, one brief supervised restroom break may be requested.  No other breaks are allowed unless approved in advance by OSD.
  10. If a learning assistant is employed for test taking, the learning assistant must remain with the student until the test is completed.
  11. The learning assistant’s role is to function as the student’s eyes or hands.  No additional coaching is permitted.
  12. Students should ask learning assistants to repeat items to them as many times as necessary to get the exact wording/answer.
  13. The faculty member should inform OSD if spelling and grammar will be graded on the exam.  OSD will then alert the learning assistant/scribe administering the test  to require the student to spell out each answer and dictate any necessary grammar.
  14. Any issues of scholastic dishonesty will be reported to your instructor and to the campus Dean of Student Services.

Pop quizzes

Students should inform their instructor that need to arrange ahead of time for you to take pop quizzes in OSD.
