ACC hired a Director of Environmental Stewardship to maximize the college's efforts to go green. Andy Kim came on board at ACC in April 2009, and his commitment to the environment promises to make the college a leader in sustainable practices.

• How did you become interested in sustainability?
  I'm an architect, and architecture is living art that needs to coexist with the earth. I believe that sustainability should be an integral part of everything we do.
  
  
• What is your educational and professional background?
  I hold a master's degree in architecture and have also done doctoral work in South Korea on environmental study of architecture. My designs have always been rooted in sustainability. I've been practicing architecture in greater Austin area since late 1990s.
  
  
• What is the best part about your job?
  I get to work with every ACC department and every campus, so I have the great privilege of educating many people on why sustainable practices are so important. I often see small changes become big results.
  
  
• What are some of your specific goals as Director of Environmental Stewardship?
  ACC began making great strides in sustainability before I got on board. My goal is to unify ACC's sustainability efforts and make sustainability a true part of ACC's culture.
  
  
• How do ACC's efforts really make a difference?
  We are educators with students from around the globe, which means we have the potential to make an international impact! I hope we can instill the value of sustainability in our students, so they will spread the environmental stewardship message through their future endeavors.
  
  
• What is one easy thing all ACC students, faculty, and staff can do to minimize the college's impact on the environment?
  Use your free bus pass. You will help reduce ACC's carbon footprint - and did I mention it's a free ride?
  
  
• What do you wish more people understood about sustainability?
  Sustainability needs to be more than just a trend. It requires a real commitment that you make in your everyday life. Everyone's efforts add up.
