notes:

-in gravelly or rocky streams (Brown 1972); usually found under submerged stones in fairly still waters out of main current (Burke 1963)

-type specimen of S. bicarinata is really a new species, S. cheryl (Brown 1987b); true S. bicarinata will key to S. convexula in keys of Brown (1976) and Sanderson (1938)(Brown 1987b)

-S. convexua is reported for Texas; eg. Brown (1956,1976) and Sanderson & Brown (1959) but it's westernmost limit is Louisiana, S. convexula does not occur in Texas (Barr & Chapin 1988)
