-recently split into 2 species; A. evoluta & A. frisoni (Stark & Brown 1991 in Abbott, Stewart & Moulton 1997) so some of these records may actually be A. frisoni

-a speciman labeled A. mela Plainview, Tx, Hale Co 1967 is in the N Tx State Univ collection but there are no suitable stream habitats in that area and the dates are erroneus and it is therefore a doubtful record (Szczytko & Stewart 1977)

-primarily lotic (Stark, Szczytko & Nelson 1998)
