Thinking of Others on Thanksgiving Day

November 21, 2012

This is the season for giving and giving thanks. In that spirit, TACHE members and friends donated food items

so that 3 families could celebrate Thanksgiving Day. We owe acknowledgement to all of the folks that contributed

donations. A special thanks goes to those who prepared the give-away packages, Naomi Garza, Alisol Martinez,

and Kelli Hinojosa…special thanks to TACHE President Mario Aguilar who organized our efforts.

General Meeting

November 9, 2012

“Austin AISD Associate Superintendent, Edmund Oropez, was the featured speaker at the November Sobre Mesa

Speaker Series. Members as well as other ACC college faculty and staff received an update on AISD efforts to increase

student success on state exams and graduation rates. According to Mr. Oropez, AISD rates as one of the top 5 school

districts regarding many of the measures. Of particular note is Early College High School, a joint project between

ACC and AISD. High School students are not only encouraged to consider going to college; but get “a leg up” by taking

college courses from ACC while still in high school. In the long term this saves the student both time and money.”

During the regular meeting, the motion for TACHE to sponsor a 5K run and 1K walk to raise scholarship funds was approved.

The date of this event is Sunday, January 27, 2013, 8 am, RVS Golf Course and is linked to the State TACHE Conference in

Austin that runs through January 30, 2013.
