A cohort is a group or band of people; from Roman antiquity, a body of about 300-600 soldiers; and any group or body of warriors. As a Teacher Certification cohort, all participants start at the same time (January) and become "warriors" together as they help learn together, support each other, and weather the ups and downs of teaching as a rookie.
Cohort 2011 - 2012
The newest cohort started in September. Participants have completed TExES training and taken content exams as well as completed 30 hours of Field Experience. They attended the Orientation and completed the EDTC 3000 class that began in January. Participants will also enjoy a paid Summer Institute tuition and student teaching experience with Pflugerville ISD. EDTC 3004 and EDTC 3005 will complete their internship year when they attain Standard Certification next May.
Cohort 2010-2011
Members complete 30 hours or more of field experience, 14 hours of EDTC 2000 TExES training, participate in a team website, apply to districts, take EDTC 3000 with Abel Villarreal and Tina Waddy, and attend the methodology Summer Institute. This group is working in horizontal teams, writing lesson plans, and thinking critically. As they get their August job assignments, they will attend EDTC 3004 and begin the internship experience. The last course is EDTC 3005, using student data and remediation.
Cohort 2009 - 2010
This cohort blazed along the trail toward becoming the best teachers ever! Members completed 30 hours or more of field experience, 14 hours of EDTC 2000 TExES training, participate in a team website, apply to districts, take EDTC 3000 with Abel Villarreal, Tina Waddy, and Gloria Gonzales, and attend the methodology Summer Institute. This group is working in horizontal teams, writing lesson plans, and thinking critically. As they get their August job assignments, they will attend EDTC 3004 and begin the internship experience. Cohort 2008 - 2009
This cohort completed their Standard Teaching Certificate, in May 2009. As they complete EDTC 3005 (January - April 15), they learned how to collect and work through data, solving problems, and staying positive. We have 7 Teachers of Promise in Austin Independent School District this year - Jim Johnson, Olga Andreeva, Imelda Hopps, Ivonne Rodriguez, Tara Boyer, Rodrigo Rodriguez-Tovar, and Alejandra Carillo!



Cohort 2007 - 2008
Members began training in January with EDTC 3000, completed the Summer Institute in June, and certified together in May, 2008. We added 37 bilingual and math and science (4-8) teachers in area schools! Cohort: AISD Teachers of Promise include Robin Fruehe, Carmen Benavides, Jennifer Garza, and Brenda Aleman; Del Valle's hottest Pre-K teacher is Daniel Mojica!
Cohort 2006 - 2007

Cohort 2005 - 2006

Members were recruited for bilingual elementary, Generalist 4-8, math and science, and American Sign Language. Bilingual members participated in a Transition to Teaching Department of Education grant (COOL) and worked with mentors for three years. AISD Teachers of Promise: Alicia Rodriquez and Lety Suarez. 2008 Palm Elementary Teacher of the year is Mario Vasquez!
Cohort 2004 - 2005
This first group of interns made history and most are still teaching. Congratulations to Andrei Parfionov, currently teaching at Webb Middle School, for his selection as a Who's Who Among American Teachers for 2006-2007! and AISD Teacher of Promise: Denise Saylor (Webb MS).
