A cohort is a group or band of people; from Roman antiquity, a body of about 300-600 soldiers; and any group or body of warriors. As a Teacher Certification cohort, all participants start at the same time (January) and become "warriors" together as they help learn together, support each other, and weather the ups and downs of teaching as a rookie.
Cohort 2010 - 2011
We begin taking applications in June for the new cohort that starts training in September. Those applying after the November 1 deadline may be added to a waiting list. Accepted applicants may attend an Information Session (June 4, July 7, August 10, September 9, and October 4). Members will complete 16 hours of Fall field experience, take EDTC 2000 TExES training, attend an Orientation and Employment Seminar, and begin training in January with EDTC 3000. First come, first accepted!
Field-Based Experiences
State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) requirement: New candidates must observe in field-based experiences for 30 hours. We have packets available for fall (16 hours) with signature sheet and spring (14 hours) with signature sheet. We also offer Tutors with Vision training online with a face-to-face session on September 26 and another session in January.
Tutors with Vision is the ACC program that trains candidates to work with students. We offer experiences in elementary (Williams and Pease Elementary), middle school (Dobie and Paredes) and high schools (Garza HS and Crockett HS). Training starts on September 15, with online segments, and a face to face session at South Austin Campus on September 26. Contact Abel Villarreal for details.
Another way to satisfy up to 15 of your observation hours includes watching on-line examples of classroom instruction and reflect on what you watched. An additional resource is available for the Texas Behavior Support Initiative. Check it out!
TExES Preparation
Start studying for the TExES exams now! Bilingual Generalist EC-6 candidates will take 4 exams; Special Education EC-12 candidates take 3 exams, including the EC-6 Generalist; Math and Science candidates take 2 exams (content and PPR). Many exams are now available on the computer, at testing centers. ACC has a testing center here at the Highland Business Center, so register through ETS, looking for the HBC site. Register with ETS and take the PACT (Pre-admission Content Test). Let us know your scores.

EDTC 1090: Methods for Tutoring Students, section 100, synonym #50104 training starts on Tuesday, September 15, online. Register for the $55 class by calling 512.454.3774. Contact us with any questions. Once you register, you may begin the online sections 1 and 2 by using the username: tutors and password: vision. Abel Villarreal is your instructor, and it ends with a face-to-face training on Saturday, September 26, from 9:00-2:00 at the South Austin Campus IVC room. This training will especially help students to become Tutors with Vision and work with the students in various schools.
Another training opportunity is EDTC 1090: Multi-level Teaching Methodology, section 101, synonym # 50105. This $300 class helps teachers work with students of varying ability levels in the same classroom, showing differentiation, accommodation, working with tiers 1-3, and assessment.2010-2011 Program Overview
Cohort 2009 - 2010
This cohort is blazing along the trail toward becoming the best teachers ever! Members complete 30 hours or more of field experience, 14 hours of EDTC 2000 TExES training, participate in a team website, apply to districts, take EDTC 3000 with Abel Villarreal, Tina Waddy, and Gloria Gonzales, and attend the methodology Summer Institute. This group is working in horizontal teams, writing lesson plans, and thinking critically. As they get their August job assignments, they will attend EDTC 3004 and begin the internship experience. The last course is EDTC 3005, using student data and remediation. check out the group.
Cohort 2008 - 2009
This cohort is almost to completion of their Standard Teaching Certificate, in May 2009. As they complete EDTC 3005 (January - April 15), they learn how to collect and work through data, solving problems, and staying positive. Cohort 2007 - 2008
Members began training in January with EDTC 3000, completed the Summer Institute in June, and will certify together in May, 2008.
