Teacher Education

Required Field Experience and Observations

After acceptance into the program, you will be sent an observation packet. Since the State Board for Educator Certification now requires 30 hours of observation in the classroom before candidates may begin the internship, we have a thoughtful process for you to complete 16 hours of classroom observation in the fall, and 14 hours in the spring. You must complete an application for a criminal background check and be accepted by the school district before entering a classroom.

The main objectives are to:

  • ensure that you want to work in a public school setting;
  • allow you to observe good teachers in action;
  • work directly with students to gain experience;
  • network within school districts to find your niche.

Tutors with Vision - a great way to begin your experience in the classroom. You will learn how to tutor, will be provided with materials for use in tutoring and your own classroom, and see student success. You can begin tutoring before the Face-to-face training. See the Tutors with Vision page for more information and class registration.
