About the Program
These courses are approved for Continuing Professional Education by the State Board for Educator Certification, provider #500551. For those with a Standard Certificate (issued after September 1,1999), educators must pay a fee and maintain records of their Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits. Each educator will affirm through an online affidavit that requirements for renewal have been met. For more information, see the SBEC website and download the renewal requirements and worksheet. Fees for each course vary, dependent on number of hours.

TExES Prep
EDTC 2000 - Professional Development for TExES -October 15- October 30, 2009. 14 hours ~ $55 Online. Contact Melaina Wilkin (223.7854) for specific TExES exam certification area.
A survey of skills and competencies necessary for success in taking state certification tests (TExES). Identify strategies for test taking and self-study. Learning Outcomes: Demonstrate comprehension of pedagogy as applied to content knowledge to render new teachers "highly qualified" by No Child Left Behind law.
This intensive training is designed to meet Continuing Education Teacher Certification Program requirements and and/or review/update requirements associated with professional licensure or certification. This course can be repeated to improve student proficiency on any TExES exam. Director approval required.
Tutors with Vision Training
EDTC 1090 - Methods for Tutoring Students - 14 hrs - $55, Sept. 19-26 (online and face to face) (section 100, synonym # 50104 Tutoring Students.Register for the $55 class by calling 512.454.3774. . Once you register, we will send you the username and password so you may begin the online sections 1 and 2. Abel Villarreal is your instructor, and it ends with a face-to-face training on Saturday, September 26, from 9:00-2:00 at the South Austin Campus IVC room. This training will especially help students to become Tutors with Vision, complete field experiences, and work with the students in various schools.
A study of the needed behaviors and methods in working with students, including motivation, communication, and using data to enhance learning. Participants will learn about learning styles, myths about teaching, jargon, effective communication and eye contact, earning respect and trust from students, praise and rewards, and data collection through the online module and during the face-to-face module at SAC, taking students from point A to point B using data and specific strategies.
Multi-level Teaching Methodology
EDTC 1090 - Multi-Level Teaching Methodology - October 3, 10, 17, 23, 2009. 30 hours - $300 (Section 100, synonym # 50105. Classes are held on Saturday with an 2-hr practicum during the week. Multi-Level Teaching Methodology
A study of the components of working with students of varying abilities while transitioning students to completion of course, program, or graduation. Participants will learn the characteristics of student, multi-level teaching, and the changing dynamics of transitioning students within the classroom. Course topics are: Classroom Environment and Student Needs; Planning for 3 Tiers of learners; Data and Assessment; and Scaffolding Tiers of Students using Available Materials. Students will prepare a portfolio as a final assessment.
