Biography:

I am an independent consultant for Project Management Systems in Austin, TX, providing project management training and consulting to business and industry in the Austin area. At present I am leading a large team on a development project to build a voter registration and election management system for the Texas Secretary of State. I have been a Sr. Project Manager and Program Management Master for Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector in Austin, TX. I have been a principle instructor and curriculum director in the Software Project Management Certificate Program of the Software Quality Institute (SQI) at the University of Texas at Austin since 1993.

I have over 25 years experience in the computer industry, with 15 years of software development and management experience with Texas Instruments, Inc. and 3 years software development experience with Applied Data Research, Inc. of Princeton, NJ. I have led or managed over 20 computer system development projects worth more than $1M each, with up to 30 members, spread over the U.S. and 8 foreign countries, with durations of 3 to 24 months, involving a range of technologies and platforms. The projects have covered a wide assortment of accounting, business modeling, communications, and operations control applications, especially airline operations.

In 1986-87, I was project manager for the development of the Gate Assignment Display System at United Airlines necessary to operate the newly constructed Terminal One at Chicago''s O''hare Airport. I also ran the Knowledge Engineering program at Texas Instruments, which included airline control systems for Northwest Airlines, Iberia (Spain), Thai (Bangkok), UPS, and others.

I received a BS in Information Systems Management with Computer Science and Math from the University of Maryland, and a Masters in Telecommunications Management from St. Edward’s University and the University of Dallas. I have been certified as a Certified Quality Manager (CQM) and Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) from the American Society of Quality (ASQ), and as a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

In January 2002, Prentice Hall published my first textbook, Quality Software Project Management. My co-authors and I spent about two years writing it, and it is a large (1629 pages) collection of reference information and explanatory text on the blended bodies of knowledge of project management (Project Management Institute's Project Management Professional Certification) and software engineering (American Society of Quality's Certified Software Quality Engineer). Its contents cover about three semester's course material.
