Unit 3 Scope -> General Description
This is Unit 3, Scope Management. Scope management is one of the core knowledge areas in project management. This unit is about understanding how to define, document, control and contain both project and product scope. Chapter 5 discusses a very important knowledge area and part of the triple constraint-project scope management. After projects are selected and initiated, project managers must clearly and thoroughly define the extent of the work and the ways in which it will be done. Important tools include developing the scope statement and creating a work breakdown structure. Both of these tools are crucial to good project management.
In this unit, we'll learn:
- To design a scope management plan
- How to write a project scope statement using the project charter and the preliminary scope statement
- Different ways of constructing a work breakdown structure using the analogy, top-down, bottom-up, and mind-mapping approaches
- How software can assist in project scope management
