Syllabus -> Learning Objectives

This course prepares students for the CompTIA IT Project+ and PMI Certified Associate of Project Management (CAPM) certification examination. The student who successfully completes this course will:

  1. Understand the genesis of project management and its importance to improving the success of information technology projects
  2. Appreciate the importance of good project management
    1. Share his/her own examples of good and bad project management
    2. Use knowledge and skills developed in this class in other settings
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of project management terms and techniques such as:
      1. The triple constraint of project management
      2. The project management knowledge areas and process groups
      3. The project life cycle
  4. Be able to use the tools and techniques of project management such as:
      1. Project selection methods
      2. Work breakdown structures
      3. Network diagrams, critical path analysis, and critical chain scheduling
      4. Cost estimates
      5. Earned value management
      6. Motivation theory and team building
