2071 Requirements Planning and Review (27 hours)
This course enables business analysts to plan a project’s requirements activities, interact with subject matter experts, track progress of requirements implementation, review requirements with stakeholders, and manage changes in scope throughout a project. Participants learn practical requirements life cycles (both plan-driven and change-driven), and they learn how to plan the work needed to respond to business needs. Participants learn how to select requirements documentation to be reviewed, the roles and responsibilities of reviewers, how to perform reviews, and how to use the resulting data from reviews. Participants learn how to select the appropriate elicitation techniques to gather requirements for their user situations, use the primary industry techniques to analyze requirements, and review the alternatives for how to document collections of requirements. They learn how to use a requirements framework to identify and relate the different types of requirements needed for a solution. They practice using a variety of elicitation and analysis techniques and in homework, focusing on those most prevalent in the industry today – interviews, surveys, workshops, context diagrams, data flow diagrams, state transition diagrams, cause and effect diagrams, process flow diagrams, and use cases. They review and discuss examples of other common techniques as well.

BMGT 2074 Use Cases (12 hours)
This course enables analysts to document solution requirements at a user requirements level. Use cases are especially helpful when capturing requirements for an interactive system that supports a business process, since they clearly define what is done by each of the participants in the process (human users, systems that respond to a user and systems that are involved in any computation behind the scenes). Many organizations find use cases helpful for other types of systems; too, such as defining the flow of data or processing that is independent of a user interface. Participants in the course use guided exercises to practice the techniques of building use cases, leveraging templates and examples. Common pitfalls are discussed, as well as how to avoid problems.
