The IBM Academic Initiative (formerly called the IBM Scholars Program) offers open standards, open source and IBM technologies and educational resources to help faculty and students stay current with the IT industry. IBM offers the course materials to help students get started with IBM products and technologies. All IBM courses are taught by IBM certified instructors. The courseware used is official IBM courseware and is included in the tuition. Students must be enrolled at least 5 workdays prior to class start date to ensure book availability at start of class.

2032 WebSphere Application Server Administration V6 (36 hours)
This course will enable students to install, configure, and maintain IBM WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment 6, and to deploy enterprise Java applications in a single machine or clustered configuration. The course covers WebSphere Application Server V6 for Windows , AIX, Linux, Solaris platforms. Lab exercises are only provided for Windows though the lecture material does cover differences between Windows and other platforms. Hands-on lab exercises are provided throughout the course.
Prerequisites: An understanding of basic Internet concepts, experience using a Web browser and basic operational skills for the Windows operating system.

2036 Servlet and JSP Development with IBM Rational Application Developer
V6 (36 hours)
This course is designed to introduce Java developers to the development and testing of server-side applications based on the J2EE component model, using IBM WebSphere and IBM Rational tools. The scope of the course covers: The development and testing of server-side applications that use servlets and JavaServer Pages (JSP) technology for the control and flow of e-business applications, and use JavaBeans to represent the business logic The development and use of custom tags for JavaServer Pages Servlet filters and listeners . Students will develop servlets, JSP pages, JSP custom tags and JavaBeans with IBM WebSphere and IBM Rational tools (currently this includes Rational Application Developer for building servlets, building JSP pages, building JSP custom tags and building JavaBeans, and WebSphere Application Server for application deployment integration testing).
Prerequisites: To get the most out of this course offering, students must meet the following prerequisites. Students who do not meet these prerequisites may not be able to fully understand and utilize the materials presented in the course: Develop, test, and deploy Java applications (as covered in course JA341 Developing and Testing OO Applications with Java or equivalent.)
Understand server-side Java applications (as covered in distance learning module VJ10A or equivalent).

2040 Developing EJBs with IBM Rational Application Developer V6 (36
hours)
This course teaches students how to develop and test Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs) using IBM Rational Application Developer Version 6, and to deploy J2EE enterprise applications to IBM WebSphere Application Server V6. It also covers how to design enterprise applications in which core business functionality is encapsulated in EJBs, and how to develop EJBs as reusable components.
This course is based on the J2EE 1.4 and EJB 2.1 specifications, and introduces extensions to these standards provided by WebSphere Application Server Version 6. Through extensive hands-on exercises and labs, students explore tools for developing EJBs in IBM Rational Application Developer and discuss best practices for designing and building EJB-based applications.
Prerequisites: ITSC 2036 Servlet and JSP Development with Rational Application Developer V6 or equivalent knowledge.
