Partnership

Austin Community College has joined IBM's World Community Grid in a partnership to contribute unused computer processing time to support humanitarian projects.  The World Community Grid's mission is to harness worldwide technology to address issues such as defeating cancer; human proteome folding; eradicating AIDS; and other significant research projects.

How it Works

The World Community Grid agent software takes advantage of idle computer time to request small packets of data for processing. Grid workstations will then perform computations on this data and return the results back to the server. Since its inception in in November of 2004, these small pieces of processing time have jointly contributed the equivalent of more than 59,000 years of unused computing time. If you are interested in tracking our contribution, ACC Team Statistics will be updated monthly.

Call for Participation

If you would like to participate or learn more, please visit the World Community Grid site. From there you can download the software and join the "ACC LELA" team by clicking on the "Download" button in the upper right hand corner of the page. It only takes about 30 seconds to sign on, and you will be making an important contribution to this worthwhile cause. If you are already running World Community Grid, click on http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=GNRBVXTZN1.
