ACC Learning Labs - Tutoring Services

Provide copies, for use in the labs, of The Official THEA Test Study Guide which contains skills review, sample exercises, practice tests, and tips on test-taking strategies
Provide individualized tutoring on a drop-in basis for this THEA Test Study Guide and for the THEA and the Texas Success Initiative’s COMPASS testing
Enroll students in PLATO Pathways computer tutorial, which includes materials covering THEA and COMPASS objects for reading, writing, and math. The PLATO program offers instructional review material and provides a substantial amount of drill, application, and opportunities for developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Refer students to other software packages, such as Skills Tutor, which target topics covered on the THEA and COMPASS tests
Offer links and handouts with tips for taking different sections of the THEA test
Inform students of the websites which provide practice tests for the THEA, the COMPASS and the ACC Assessments

Invest extra time to acquire the skills they need to be successful with the THEA test, the COMPASS test, or other ACC assessment tests.
Come prepared with specific questions so that tutors are able to help target particular
skills students may need to review and to help students determine where to focus study efforts.
Know that tutoring labs are available at every campus and are open when ACC academic classes are in session; students can go to any learning lab to prepare for assessment testing.
Understand that tutors are not teachers; learning lab tutors can work with a student on specific questions, as a complement to the student’s own efforts.
