ITSE 1450 System Analysis and Design

II.        Prerequisites: Two programming courses or departmental approval

III.       TEXTBOOK:  Systems Analysis and Design, Shelly, Cashman, and Rosenblatt, Seventh Edition.

IV.       Course Objective:

1.         Provide a general orientation to business systems, the major components and how they interact as a system.

2.         Ensure an understanding of the fundamentals of Systems Analysis and Design with emphasis on entity relationships, data modeling, systems prototyping and systems development.

3.         Familiarize the student with the principles and team concept associated with the analysis and design of a business system.

V.        STUDENT OBJECTIVES:   Upon course completion student will:

1.         Understand the phases and applications of the systems development life cycle.

2.         Be familiar with design methods, entity relationships and data modeling principles.

3.         Design and prototype a business system as a team project utilizing CASE tools.

VI.       Course Requirements:

Students should attend all classes, read assignments prior to class attendance, take all course examinations and make significant contributions to all class projects. Make‑up exams will only be allowed in cases of extreme emergencies. Students may be dropped by the instructor at any point in the course for unsatisfactory  progress.

2.         Students will complete all team assignments as scheduled and work in concert with the team coordinator, and team members in the development of the final design project. Failure to fulfill team duties may result in a grade reduction or  being dropped for lack of progress.

VII.     Grading:

            Preliminary Investigation Project 15%

            Design project‑‑Team effort ....... 45%

A = 100‑90, B = 89‑80, C = 79‑70, D = 69‑60, F = 59‑0

Incomplete will rarely be given and only in extreme cases.
