ACC is an accredited institution
> All of our courses are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. This means that all of our instructors and curriculum must meet a set level of criteria established by the state of Texas.

Transferring credit hours to other schools
> All courses will transfer to any other Community College in the state of Texas and some courses will transfer to four year universities. If you plan to go on to a 4 year university it is recommended that you check with that school to ensure those courses will transfer into your intended major.

Many credits from other schools will transfer towards a degree at ACC
> Courses taken at many accredited institutions will transfer towards a degree at ACC. Courses must have similar content in order to transfer over as equivalent credit hours in your intended major. Contact a Visual Communication advisor for specific information.

Course challenges
> If you believe you have already mastered the contents of a required VisCom course, you may challenge that course and receive credit.
It is important that you do not register for the class beforehand. Contact the VisCom office for more information.

Already have a bachelor’s degree?
> This normally means that you have completed your 15 hours of general education requirements, so you will only need to take the core courses in your chosen major.

Student audience
> Our students come from a variety of backgrounds such as: high school graduates, college graduates, and design professionals.

Classroom structure
> Our VisCom labs are equipped with the latest hardware and software. The class limit is 12-13 students for all computer based courses and basic foundation courses, and 24 for lecture courses.
The instructors bring real world knowledge into the classroom, therefore many of the assignments simulate an actual studio environment.

Industry professionals have a positive opinion of the VisCom Department
> Our objective to place well-trained students into the Austin job market is realized in part by the efforts of dedicated industry professionals who teach in our department and through the assistance of a professional advisory committee from the design community that helps us make key decisions about the direction of our program.

Students win awards
> Our students have won numerous awards locally and nationally including the Austin Advertising Federation (ADDY) Award (local), and the Graphis New Talent Award (national). Texas State University's Creative Summit, AIGA Top Dog Awards, and more. (See the student's Portfolio Page).

Austin Community College offers Financial Aid
> Information about general financial aid, scholarships, grants and loans at ACC is available online at the Financial Aid Office web site.
There are also two scholarships, the Ben Clough scholarship and the Edwina Fredlund Traverso scholarship, specifically for Visual Communication students.

Student Services are available at the Community College
> If you find yourself in a place where you could use some coaching, ACC offers help with Counseling, Educational & Career Planning at the Student Services office. We also have a department student design club that is affiliated with the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA).
