These purposes of these assignments are to expose you to the current news and events that are occurring in the meeting and event industry internationally.  You will be provided with the online informational source which will be a newsletter, online trade magazine or professional resource monthly brief to review for 1 week.  During this week you should read this entire source.  When you return to class the following week, I will divide the class into groups based on a subject in the source and following my directed questions.  Each member of the group will have two questions to answer on their own (worth 3 points per piece).  I will give each group 10-15 minutes to summarize their thoughts on the article and then give a synopsis to the class.  You will be graded on how well you are prepared for the synopsis, your answers to your given questions, and your participation with your group and your participation with the class.  You will receive up to 4 points for your participation.

Exams

All Exams are given on the Blackboard System.  The exam is made up of multiple choice and short answer questions.  Exams are over the material (chapters and material presented in class) that has BEEN PRESENTED up to the point of the exam ONLY.  Exam One (Chapters 1-4) Exam Two (Chapters 5-9) Exam Three (10-12, 14-15).  Exams will open on the night listed in the outline and will remain open until the following Monday at midnight.  You may take the exam at anytime, however, you when you begin the exam you can only take the exam once.  You will have 2.5 hours to take the exam.

If you do not wish to take the exam online, you do have the option to take the exam in the testing center or by pen and paper.  Please let me know and I will be happy to make any arrangements for you.

Proposal

You will be assigned a RFP for an international event.  You will only be assigned a portion of the event in the conceptual stage.  You will have approximately 3 weeks to create this proposal and you will present this proposal one on one as a sales pitch.  You are completely responsible for research, design, and planning.  This proposal is competitive and you will be competing with at least one other person in the class on the same portion of the event.

Speaker / On the Field

This assignment is an applied assignment where we will go offsite to study the impact of global meeting and event planning.  You will be given extensive research to study prior to the excursion as well the itinerary.  We will be meeting with other meeting and event planners so it will be imperative that you are prepared.
