Your assignment tonight is to create a final foundation for your team’s idea.  The two links above will take you to the bplans.com site that will begin to assist you in researching how to formulate this plan.

You have also been given your software which houses over 500+ sample plans that your team can begin to review.  Each team member has a downloadable copy of bplan.  This is a one time load copy only.

Next week, it is critical that this work is done so the team can begin strategizing venture management.

Attendance-Each day you will write one paragraph about what you learned in class.  This is NOT a repeat of the lecture notes.  This is what you LEARNED in class and what you plan to do reinforce that learning.  You will need to turn in this assignment via email no later than each THURSDAY of each week.  vlawrenc@austincc.edu

Pitch It!

The purpose of this assignment is for you to be able to successfully propose, convince, entice and prepare an audience to desire to learn more about an idea you have.  Though the idea will be your own, you will be restricted on what you can use to pitch your idea.  You cannot bring any outside materials.

Business Plan

This course will focus on exploring entrepreneurship opportunities in the hospitality industry, such as hotels, motels, bed and breakfast establishments, restaurants, food supplies, supplementary services, etc. in the hospitality logistic chain. This assignment provides you the best opportunity to start the planning process.  This assignment may be done in group of no more than three students. Each group is required to develop a business plan for a concept related to hospitality of their own interest.  Each group needs to keep a journal documenting all study activities. You need to turn in the journal at the end of this semester.

The objective of a business plan is to provide a blueprint to start and run a business.  A good business plan requires a tremendous amount of time and effort to think, explore, research, debate, assess, and evaluate the business idea.  The purpose is to provide answers to the following questions, in order to reduce the risk of failure and to assure success. What is the business idea? How will you make money? What value is the business creating?  Is there a market for your produce/service? Who are the competitors? How competitive is the market? Can you offer the product/service at an acceptable and profitable price?  What are your costs, expenses, and revenues? How and where will you get funds for your business? How will you repay your creditors and investors? Can you create a sustainable competitive advantage that you can successfully exploit?

The business plan should address the following issues:

n              Executive Summary

n              General Company Description

l           Present and anticipated competition

l           SWOT analysis

n              Products and Services

n              Marketing Plan

l           Market research

l           Discussion of potential customers

l           Demographics, business environment, and lifestyle

l           Break-even analysis

n              Operational Plan

l           Five forces analysis

l              Plan for quality assurance

n              Management and Organization

l           Management and staff plan

n              Personal Financial Statement

n              Startup Expenses and Capitalization

l           Total initial investment needs

n              Financial Plan

l           Financing plan to assure sources of capital

n              Appendix—supporting documents

Requirements: A professionally prepared business plan. Each business plan needs to prepare a 20-minute presentation.

Imitation or Icon

Each student will be allowed to choose a successful entrepreneur from a list.  Materials will be provided but this will not limit the student from finding additional material to aid in this assignment. Each student will study this individual carefully and determine whether or not the traits of this individual match their own to enhance their goals to become an icon.  On the due date, the student will present their review and the goals.  A directed presentation sheet will be provided to assist.

Check it out – I have added a new Blog of materials that I find.  If you come across something let me know.

Concept Kick Start
