Distance Learning Student Orientation

After you have completed enrollment in an on-line class, Austin Community College will add you to the Blackboard system - approximately 3 - 4 days prior to the first day of class. This is usually the Thursday before classes begin.

Read "Distance Learning 101": You will find a link to this document on the main page of my ACC webpage. This short essay will show you how to make sure you succeed in this on-line learning environment. Take time to get acquainted with your Blackboard site and all it's buttons and links. Read each and every one carefully.

Login into Blackboard On-line at http://acconline.austincc.edu/ and follow instructions under "Student Guide – Getting with Blackboard" This is the address that you will go to and log on each time you want to enter the Blackboard system.

Once you have read the on-line syllabus, please send me an ORIENTATION CONFIRMATION e-mail - INCLUDING YOUR COURSE AND SECTION NUMBER - including the affirmative statements below:

Your Contact Information: Name, Phone Numbers (work and home), E-mail address.
I have read the Syllabus thoroughly.
I understand the course requirements, policies and procedures.
I have located ACC's Blackboard site and successfully logged in.
I have located and viewed my Blackboard class webpage tabs: Assignments; Discussion Boards Procedures; Chapter Quizzes; Exam; and Technical Support.
I have noted the due dates for all assignments, quizzes, and exams and I understand that becoming late in my assignments without Professor contact and approval may be grounds for being dropped from the class by Professor initiation.
I have found the Student Tools section.
I have changed my e-mail address in Blackboard. I promise to update and correct my e-mail address at all times during the semester.
I know how to check my grades through Blackboard.

Send your Orientation e-mail to: wlanford@austincc.edu as your first assignment.

Please note that I will not consider you fully enrolled in the course until I have received this orientation information e-mail from you. Look at the Assignments. Set yourself a time line for your studies and projects. This type of on-line study format can be quite convenient as long as you DO NOT GET BEHIND.

Now, make sure you purchase your textbook and start reading to get a head start!
